Elizabeth Kahn, Madi Fair, Lithuania and Louise Denetso were invited to the Center for Southwest Studies at Fort Lewis College to speak and present during an event focused around recently conserved and digitized RBMVExpedition films from the 1930’s. We were delighted to watch an edited reel of these films and get a deeper glimpse into Expedition daily life and discovered lengthy segments focused on Max Littlesalt and his father in law, John Austin. During this event we heard presentations related to the films by Jack Turner, the digitization process by Nik Kendziorski, the botany and ethno-botony of the Expedition region by Arnold Clifford and the perspectives of two Native students from Fort Lewis College.
We were offered space in the Center’s gallery to show some of our archival materials, to discuss our current work and show photographs and histories from the Littlesalt family. We thoroughly enjoyed being a part of this event!
We were able to spend an afternoon looking through some of the latest material donated from Roger Hall who was the son of the RBMVExpedition director, Ansel Hall. The items were donated to the Center by his nephew, Jack Turner, to become part of the extensive RBMVExpedition archives. It is always a pleasure to roll up our sleeves and spend some time with original 1930’s letters, documents, photographs and more from the Expedition.
Thank you to the Center for Southwest Studies!!
