
Even though they were rarely written about or given mention at the time, women were an integral part of the Rainbow Bridge Monument Valley Expedition. Our third graphic biography presents the life of Gertie Austin from stories and oral histories we have gathered over the past 10 years.




In 2019, the ONWARD Project carried out our own aerial survey of the same Northern Arizona region photographed by researchers in the 1930's. We present our images alongside those of the original survey to demonstrate the timelessness of the land.




This website is the culmination of artist Hans Baumann's study of the archives of the RBMVExpedition and his interactions with this data and the places it represents; an attempt to contextualize the legacy of the Expedition.




In this second Graphic Narrative, we focus on Ray Garner, a young Expedition filmmaker, who carefully documented his days in journals throughout his time on the 1937 Expedition.
